It doesn't have to be made of metal, it could be stone, crystal, or another resilient and hard substance. Or, a weighted baseball, or something like that. WebScythes were historically very inefficient combat weapons. They were used exclusively as improvised weapons by farmers. Their combat stats in D&D have very little connection to reality.
